Bitter guard masala

Karela spicy

suitable with rice, chapaties. best for the people who are in diet.

Ingredients vegetarian 2 servings


    • 1 long Bitter guard (Karela)
    • 1 thinly sliced Onion
    • 1 tomato (finely chopped)
    • 1/2 tbsp ginger garlic paste
    • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
    • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
    • 1 tbsp oil
    • salt to taste

    Directions

    1. Cut karela in to 1/2inch pieces. Remove the seeds.
    2. Pour oil in a pan. Heat.
    3. Put onion and fry well. Add ginger garlic paste and saute well.
    4. Add tomato and saute well. Add karela And saute.
    5. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt. Saute.
    6. Add 1 cup water. Close the pan. After10 mins open the pan. The raw colour of karela should be changed, means, karela was cooked. Otherwise cook for some times by adding water.
    7. Evaporate if there is water.
    8. Now the dish is ready to serve.

    The addition of water makes the karela bitter. Try adding some saunf seeds to the oil before adding other ingredients. To lessen the bitterness cut the karela and remove white pith and seeds, sprinkle salt and keep for a while then wash off and dry the vegetable before using. Also cook on low heat, the addition of tomatoes give it enough moisture to cook in.

    If oil is added a little more and the dish will be dry and crispy. A pinchof sugar or jaggery may be added.
